This critically acclaimed musical adaptation of C.S.
Lewis’ classic book has played in many theatres in the USA
and throughout the world. The New York Times said
of the London production when it played Off-Broadway that
“From it’s opening moment, one is irresistibly drawn into
‘Narnia’ … an enchanted atmosphere that
harmonizes the Broadway world of ‘Cats’ with the
more refined literary tradition of C.S. Lewis.”
Tom also composed the concert version "Narnia Suite"
for New York’s Little Orchestra Society – it is for 4
singers and 50-piece symphony orchestra and premiered at
Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall in New York in 1997.
In addition, America’s foremost theatre producer for young
audiences,
Theatreworks/USA has been touring a
one-hour version of the show since 1992 – with the
original title The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
NARNIA is available for stage production

This
“adventure musical” is about a gorgeous coed whose
archeologist boyfriend goes off to Peru to find the Lost
City of Viracocha. A bit like “Raiders of the Lost
Ark” meets “Dames at Sea”, the show is a zany
valentine to the big MGM musicals and the Bob Hope/Bing
Crosby “road” movies. The Seattle Times described
the Village Theatre production as “just swell … a world
premiere that takes a machete to the Technicolor
conventions of the 1950s and leaves a trail of laughter in
its path.” Jungle Queen Debutante was
featured in New York’s "Broadway Dozen" series and at the
National Alliance for Musical Theatre’s annual NYC
Festival – also in readings at New York’s York Theatre and
The Genesius Guild.

Originally written for and starring Tommy Tune, this
one-man musical is based on Irving’s classic story about
Ichabod Crane, the lanky, awkward schoolmaster of the
Hudson Valley’s Sleepy Hollow who tries to woo the
beautiful young Katrina, but is eventually chased out of
town by the Headless Horseman. The New York Daily News
called it a “Tuneful Ichabod … a delightful show”
and Boston’s Herald American said “The songs of
Thomas Tierney have good tunes for Tune, and these are
pleasant enough for anyone.”
For
production information, contact Peter Hagan at The
Gersh Agency, 41 Madison Avenue, 33rd floor,
New York, NY 10010. Phone 212-634-8115, Fax 212-391-8459.
Other
musicals…
Tom
Tierney also composed The Dream Team which played
Connecticut’s famous Goodspeed Opera (at Chester) – a
musical about two young black brothers who are a pitcher/
catcher team in the 1940’s Negro Leagues, and how they
struggle to survive as baseball begins to integrate.
Musicals for young audiences
include several for Theatreworks/USA as well as
Olympic Spirit, a one-hour show for 4 actors about
Jesse Owens and the 1936 Olympics and The Fabulous
Fable Factory (based on Aesop’s Fables)
which is published by The Dramatic Publishing
Company, and has been produced by more than 500 theatres
in the USA and Canada. Musicals for Theatreworks/USA are
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (see
NARNIA above), The Amazing Einstein,
Susan B! (about Susan B. Anthony’s fight for
women’s rights), Teddy Roosevelt,
First Lady (the first version of ELEANOR
– see above) and Stars and Stripes Forever
(about Betsy Ross and the creation of the first American
flag).
Tom
is now writing two new musicals: Zack Hill
(with author Werner Treischmann), based on the nationally
syndicated comic strip by John Deering; and the sequel to
his popular children’s musical The Fabulous Fable
Factory (with writer Joseph Robinette).
